The study of samples of decapod crustaceans recovered from the Priabonian (late Eocene) of the Moianès (Catalonia), allows us to describe a new genus and a new species, Moianella cervantesi, and also, in view of the morphological similitudes with the genus Montezumella, previously placed in Cheiragonidae, a new family is proposed to accommodate both genera: Montezumellidae. Tentatively, and with reservations, "Atelecyclus" gorodiskii and "Titanocarcinus" zoellneri are also included in this new family. Montezumellidae is an extinct eubrachyuran, a very homogeneous family, that inhabited the Western Tethys to the Pacific Ocean, from the middle Eocene until the Neogene.
This publication principally serves to validate the nomenclatural acts in Ossó & Domínguez (2013), in order to fulfil the requirements outlined in ICZN (2012).
