Vidal-Naquet sobre Vernant; Vernant i Vidal-Naquet

A survey of Vidal-Naquets Mémoires highlights the intellectual and personal
bond between him and Vernant. For both of them, political engagement and
Classical studies were inseparably linked, accounting for a particular view of
ancient Greece that stands at the base of their anthropological approach to
Greek culture. Their common interest on tragedy (as shown by the two volumes
of Mythe et tragédie en Grèce ancienne) provides a focus to examine the
shared perspectives and the subtle differences in their respective approaches.
