In the current higher-education scenario, the entire university community must be involved in and committed to quality in teaching to achieve academic excellence through teaching and research activity and incorporating strategies of continual improvement. Initiatives currently being implemented in tertiary education include MOOCs, the use of video and other audiovisual resources, the development of professional competencies using different tools, the adapting of final course projects to academic excellence standards, the use of Moodle tools, the incorporation of social media and networks in teaching and the implementation of alternative assessment systems (peer-to-peer, self-assessment, etc.).
