La Distinció del mode verbal: ús d'una oposició fonològica al català de la Cerdanya i a l'occità

This article deals with the syncretism found in Catalan in the first and second person plural of
the present indicative in relation to the corresponding forms of the present subjunctive and those
of the imperative as well. In certain cases, some linguistic varieties avoid this coincidence of form.
To analize this point, II we focus on a particular feature of the speech of Cerdanya, which consists in
using the phonological opposition /E@/ ~ /é/ to differentiate the verb forms corresponding to the
indicative and subjunctive moods.
This feature is also present in a wide swathe of Occitan territory, where different variants are used.
In spite of the fact that the forms in Cerdanya do not coincide exactly with any of the variants found
in Occitan, it seems possible to argue that the feature found in the two languages is of common origin.
