Valor neològic i valor lexicogràfic dels morfemes transferits. A propòsit d'-ing, -gate, -itis i -mania en català

Main Article Content

Elisenda Bernal i Gallén
This article presents an analysis of words formed from four different morphemes (two of English origin, -ing and -gate, and two learned elements, -itis and -mania), which are used to build words in modern Catalan. The analysis shows how transfer from onelanguage to another, in this case from English to Catalan, and a change in class, from a learned form to a suffix, have an effect on the pragmatic force of the resulting words, which are generally humoristic and ironical, this giving them a high neologistic value. We also apply various lexicographical criteria (frequency, morphosemantics and documentary evidence) to assess their eligibility for inclusion in a dictionary.
