Landscapes of transumerism: the visual order of take away consumption

The process of urbanisation has represented the loss of singularity which goes hand in hand with the homogenisation of landscapes. Thus, landscape appears as progressively less attached to the place since it seems that there is no particular interest in representing local physical, social or cultural meaning. Along with this urban explosion a new type of metropolitan experience has emerged, deeply characterised by the multiplication of urban behaviours, easily replicable and portable from one place to another. Metropolitan spaces devoted to mobility and consumption clearly show this evolution. In this sense, the success of multicinemas or the so-called low cost culture experience allow a very specific use of space which is independent of the time and appears as indifferent to the place. Both urban scenarios show the emergence of a new visual order associated to consumption and mobility. This is a visual order which refers to a production of landscapes for being appreciated, perceived and consumed as a take away product. This new culture of mobility in-between places refers to territoriants more to inhabitants and deals with transumers more than with consumers. However, this is a brand new culture inspired by a very nostalgic gaze which projects itself upon landscape. perception. In conclusion, landscapes are merely considered as commodities; they are not really related with the construction of any sense of place but simply used as instruments for the recollection of experiences, emotions and the consumption of local history which goes hand in hand with landscape thematisation. This is a process in which both technological and cultural proteases are progressively used in our perception of landscape reinforcing the visual order that frames the intensive consumption of nostalgia and romanticism.
