Abstract

Experimental cinema and video art are artistic disciplines that contemplate the option of recording, studying and debating the idiosyncrasies of the maritime landscape. Considering aesthetic issues and raising critical discourses deployed through sounds and moving images are the objectives of works whose dynamics adapt to the synergies of ocean currents. The sea and the ocean, as entities attached to the concept of landscape, are sources of inspiration for audiovisual artists who investigate the value of these aqueous scenarios from poetic positions and critical considerations which are not exempt from theoretical foundations. This article presents a journey through the different approaches to the sea by filmmakers and video creators who use film and videographic devices to celebrate the vitality of marine currents. By doing so, they show their fragility, denouncing their unstoppable exploitation and advocating for a change of model regarding its uses.
