The aim of this article is to examine the current situation of Spanish language and literature teaching in Brazil. Focusing on the teaching of Spanish literature, this paper provides a description of certain difficulties and problems faced by lecturers teaching Spanish literature in the Brazilian educational context are highlighted, paying special attention to teaching methodology. Following this, four key teaching approaches are presented, based on the authors’ own extensive experience as lecturers in Brazil. These are intended to contribute to overcoming the challenges of teaching Spanish literature at Brazilian universities.
