The article begins by analysing and justifying the principles articulated in Kant’s opuscule On Pedagogy from the results of transcendental philosophy and, especially, its understanding of man, culture and history. The hiatus that separates the education of a child-adolescent at the critically-reflexive moment of the philosophy explains the Kantian distinction between a pedagogy focussed on the acquisition of skills and dexterity and the self-training of the free spirit that was taken on by the majority of people in the age of reason. This permits, in turn, an explanation of the fundamental characteristics of Kantian wisdom in terms of the “Wisdom of the Moral Man” and its differences to the wisdom of the ancients.
