Anyone interested in the urban history of Spain during the first half of the nineteenth century will know that there is not much more information about how these transitions took place indeed. However, some events took place: on one hand, the last proposals of the Napoleonic era (Puerto de la Paz; the reconstruction of San Sebastián in 1814; the urban reforms of Madrid ...). On the other hand, the local governments of Barcelona and Madrid made public the need for planning urban expansion. Just as Kracauer wrote about Offenbach's Paris, when the middle class came to power, it was aware that one of the architect’s prerogatives of the time was to plan and define a new urban model.
