The French National Front is one of the more solid and old radical right parties in Western Europe. Given the relevance that has showed the apparition of diverse forms of populism, especially since the beginning of the economic crisis of 2008, it is important to establish which is the profile of a movement like this: the modernization of its discourse, its dependence on opportunities offered by the crisis, its character of cultural rupture of continuity with the old attitudes of radical right. This article provides an approach to the recent historic development of the party since its foundation, as an alliance of diverse sensibilities of radical right, to the constitution of a mass movement of national republican profile, a renewing profile that tries to implement its current president, Marine Le Pen.
