Aquest article explora les múltiples cares del populisme israelià mitjançant una anàlisi històrica de l'ús del terme poble, des de la fundació de l'Estat fins a l'actualitat. Després de discutir els diferents conceptes del populisme, s'examina la configuració del “poble” a la política israeliana entre els anys 1950 i 1980, amb especial atenció a l'hegemonia del sionisme laborista i el posterior ascens del Likud. A continuació, s'analitza la transformació del discurs populista els anys 1990 i 2000, centrada en la dreta religiosa i nacionalista, en un context de la deslegitimació creixent del laborisme israelià i l'auge del neoliberalisme global. Finalment, s'estudia la radicalització del populisme israelià a partir del 2009, amb la consolidació del lideratge de Netanyahu, l'afebliment de les institucions democràtiques i l'augment de la polarització.
