Literature, History and Anti-war Sentiment in Pablo Montoya’s Los derrotados

This essay reflects on Los derrotados, a novel by Colombian writer Pablo Montoya. The work revolves around the figure of Francisco José de Caldas, a scientist who has transcended as a hero of the Colombian Independence. Taking as starting points the philosophy of history and various studies on historical novel, the ethical and aesthetic project of Los derrotados is analyzed, as well as its relation with the past and the present of the Colombian violence.
