Este artículo indaga en los conflictos de la cultura ecuatoriana. Basándose en las nociones de Williams, Weber y Echeverría, reflexiona sobre la búsqueda de una identidad nacional en oposición a una herencia colonial todavía presente. Establece una relación entre este conjunto de problemáticas y los fundamentos conceptuales de los proyectos de la revolución ciudadana, elaborados para los periodos 2009-2013 y 2013-2017. A partir de este análisis se plantea una interpretación en torno a las dificultades para reconocer la actualidad del legado colonial y concebir una cultura propia y, por lo tanto, una visión del porvenir.
