La obra Tradiciones y leyendas chiquitanas de Héctor Landívar Flores, publicada en 1981, cuenta las leyendas tradicionales de la región escuchadas o vividas por el autor durante su vida: unos cuentos sencillos que revelan también las condiciones de vida cotidiana, la disparidad social entre mestizos y campesinos y el sincretismo con el que se presenta la mitología local.
