Lope de Vega on Television

This article unpacks the image that Spanish National Television (TVE) has made of Lope de Vega from the 1960s to nowadays. By analyzing the entire fifty year corpus of Lope’s plays broadcast on TVE, as well as other shows in which he figures as a protagonist, I explore the extent to which television stands as a medium capable of offering alternative approaches that question the Lope myth that cultural memory has institutionalized around his persona.
