This article is an extract from the final project in the conservation and restoration course the aim of which was to carry out a theoretical and practical study of impregnation procedures in canvas supports used the past.


The theoretical framework consisted of research into and the collecting of methods and products used previously, as well as the consequences these had for the preservation of the artwork. The practical aspect concerns the analytical study of the particular impregnation of a piece delivered to the studio from the Sant Pau de Pomar church (la Segarra), and explains the process of elimination, appending a set of proofs which determine and support the method chosen.
