La ciència i els científics en l'espai públic

Modem science has played a fundamental role in the development of the economy and culture of contemporary societies. Nowadays, technological and social advances have permitted the creation of an entire communication system which acts as a true subsystem of society. Scientists have become figures which, outside of their own specific field, are asked to intervene in the media to give their opinions about different current issues. However, the logic ofmass media protessionats is different from, and at times contrary to, that of scientists. For this reason, one must ask oneself whether the media, and the broadcast media in particular, are the appropriate plattorm for scientists, convened into intellectuals, to put forward their vision of the world as a consequence of their education and methodical activity.
