This article analyzes the existing relationship between the different types of "intellectual workers" and the "cultural and communication industries" from a critical point of view. This broad group -within which "pure" intellectuals comprise only a small but importantpwtis composed of a group ofpeople whose social and work status is largely due to their greater or lesser degree of economic dependency on the companies which make up the cultural and communication industries, producers and marketers of culture and communication for both the elite and the masses, lalgely privately owned, both national and transnational. The anide studies the interrelationship of the intellectual workers with these cultural and communication companies and not their postures towards these companies. This last phenomenon has given rise to a vast quantity ofoften contradictory publications by those who have been referred to as "apocalyptic" and "integrated".
