The postmodem era is an impoverished time. The poverty of our epoch is conscious and well known, but it is not a resigned poverty because it hopes to be redeemed by a new paradigm which has yet to be revealed. A time ofpoverty is not an apocalyptic time, but rather a time of hope, of confidence. The time we are living in requires serenity, rationality and memory. Serenity in the face of changes of paradigm, rationality in the face of post-enlightenment irrationality and a firm memory to avoid barbarism. In this article we attempt to describe the different scenarios ofpostmodem poverty. Although utopia is still hidden, the drama of history has not yet reached its conclusion, and so, we must keep vigil hopefully and await the future.
