The catalogues and specific monographs published for their different territories suggest an estimated presence of about 970 bryophyte taxa in the Catalan Countries. The significant bryophytic richness of this region and the importance of its preservation have been increasingly emphasised in recent
years. Nevertheless, the loss of biological diversity observed worldwide also extends to this group of plants. Some of the main causes contributing to the decline in bryophytic diversity are listed in this study, along with potential actions
that could help to mitigate or reduce their impact.
