Notes for an archaeology of the pre-feudal castles and fortifications in the Pyrenees (Urgell, Pallars and Ribagorça), 6th-10th centuries

We have geo-referenced and mapped the 6th to 10th centuries fortified settings we are aware of by using written documentation and archaeology. A few guidelines to try and improve our knowledge on this type of archaeological sites have been put in place. We have tried to understand the logic of their location given what we know about road networks, productive activities and the unfolding of a new model of societal organization and political power. Last but not least we have set out issues related to the continuity and improvement of knowledge on these pre-feudal fortifications.
