Las ciencias Sociales en la Academia de Ciencias de Cuba (1962-1981)

This work offers an overview of the Social Sciences in Cuba during the twentieth century. It shows how the essay prevailed during the first fifty years and was the vehicle by which the greatest thinkers approached the nations’ key problems, and sought out the solutions. The study of institutions and the primary research carried out in the period after 1959 are then analyzed. It concludes that the social research topics in Cuba during this last period were a reflection of the emergence of the new social problems produced by the restructuring of the society and the State. The main achievement of this period was the creation of a critical mass of professionals, and its contact with a wide spectrum of theoretical and methodological trends.
