For Latin America, photography has not only been the most effective means of illustration since its appearance but also the most important graphic link of continental history. If we focus on portraits, they became a synonym for photography itself given the outstanding social function they had in its development, with the possibility of technifying and reproducing them. From the elite and the bourgeoisie in small villages, to workers, immigrants and even the paradigmatic cases of lndians and Blacks, the portrait became the most obvious means to manifest an identity or build an alterity.
