There is a close link between technology, research and development in Africa. The analysis of this link must be based on a prior analysis of Europe, since colonialism also entails the hegemony of the European scientific paradigm even in Africa. Consequently, African technology and scientific development have been closely linked to the Western tradition, to the detriment of a possible autonomous African development. Having analysed the role of a basic science and the place occupied by new technologies such as the Internet in Africa's development process, we must ask ourselves whether Africa's separation from the world market could make autonomous development possible in the long term.
