Housing in the historical center of Barcelona

In the urban centers inhabited by low social classes, housing has been traditionally one of the main problems; downgrading is a ballast that many central neighbourhoods are carrying. This is the case of the Barcelona's neighbourhood called elRaval, where the last years is taking place an intensive urban renovation , promoted by the municipal government. The recent opening of the avenue called RambladelRaval has created in its surroundings urban expectations of big repercussions in the neighbourhood and on its inhabitants. Of the one hand, the economical improvement, that will be involved with the future services of the area, is expected to promote building investments , among other aspects. Of the another hand, the demolition of complete blocks has entailed the removal of the residents, that will be intensified if the property capital invests significantly in the area.
