Neoliberalism and heritagization. Resistance and social change in processes of heritagization of urban territories in Southern Chile: Biobío, Araucanía and Los Ríos

From a critical perspective, the processes of heritage construction are actions that are linked to battles for the social power. Historically, this has given shape to various conflicts, which have been relegated from the accepted heritage discourse and understood as subaltern heritages. This article analyzes relationships between both discourses from a general trend of local heritagization processes in Chile: Heritagization as resistance and social change. Based on the foregoing, the article seeks to contribute critical elements to the understanding of the heritage phenomenon, which have been overlapped by a strong, essentialist hegemonic patrimonial discourse.
