The study of the poetic speaker in Pere Gimferrer's Els miralls

Main Article Content

Andrea Pereira

This article studies the voice of the poetic speaker in Els miralls, the first book written in Catalan by Pere Gimferrer, published in 1970. The poet started his literary career writing in Spanish and, as a member of the novísimos's group, he rejected the poetry of experience. However, in the course of time, the poetic speaker of his poems is no longer useful to him and he needs a change. Since the change of language is motivated by the exploration of a new aesthetic proposal -he wants to get close to his autobiographical self-, this study analyses the difficulties and problems to formulate his identity. Thanks to this analysis, we will value Els miralls as a link between two literary traditions and we will point out the aesthetics that he follows in his later books.
