This study analyses the phenomenon of cotton harvesting in Catalonia, specifically in the Baix Gaià region, during Franco’s regime. Based on documentary sources and oral testimonies, it reconstructs the introduction, organization, and impact of this crop in the area, placing it within the broader framework of Franco’s economic policy. The study examines the role of the Algodonera de Cataluña company, the response of local farmers, and the reasons behind the decline of this practice in the 1960s, thus helping to fill a gap in the history of Baix Gaià.
