The summit of Bairén’s hill has been a central point for centuries in the settlement of the territory of the Safor basin, broadly defined by the lower courses
of the Serpis and Vernissa rivers. With important archaeological remains belonging to occupations from the Bronze Age, the Iberian period, the process of
Roman implantation or Late Antiquity, we owe the construction of the remains visible today to the Andalusian period. This article, based on the results of
the excavations carried out at the site between 2020-2021, aims to present a first rigorous and archaeologically-based draft of the site’s occupation process
through the systematisation of its stratigraphic sequence.

Keywords
al-Andalus, fortifications, stratigraphic sequence.
