In this paper we present a theoretical and methodological contribution consisting of a series of considerations and empirical examples for the study of Middle Palaeolithic archaeological palimpsests using the lithic record. Our starting point is the concept of human occupation episode as the minimum unit of analysis that can be identified stratigraphically. We reflect upon the operational problems involved in its identification.
