Marcos Jesús Bertrán Barcelona (1877-1934) was a writer, a musicologist and music critic who gained distinction for his collaboration in various newspapers such as La Vanguardia and El Día Gráfico. He was the founder and curator of the Museo del Teatro in Barcelona and published various novellas, librettos of musical comedies such as Barnum and numerous theatrical works. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to organise the Third International Theatre Congress in Barcelona in 1929, during which he published his article ‘An Unforgettable Choreography’ where he described the ‘mummery’ of the party held in the Catalan capital in honour of King Felipe V on occasion of his marriage to María Luisa Gabriela de Saboya in 1702. He is also the author of such works as El Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona (1837-1930) and Los Maestros Cantores de Nuremberg, the latter reflecting his ascription to Wagnerian trends. The letters preserved in the MAE (Museum of Performing Arts) in Barcelona demonstrate the friendly relationship, the trust and the everyday dealings that Bertrán had with Felip Pedrell.
