La cançó a l’obra d’Apel·les Mestres

Main Article Content

Cèsar Calmell i Piguillem
A study of the song repertory of Apel·les Mestres (1854-1936), in relation to the aesthetic, social and musical ideas of the period. The author analyses the rich personality of Mestres as a poet, sketch artist and musician and shows the naturalist option of his study subject, which is in keeping with the aesthetics of the second half of the 19th century. A significant section of the article reveals his contact with the best composers (including Pedrell, Granados, Millet, Vives, etc.) and contemporaneous singers (especially Conxita Badia, Mercè Plantada and Emili Vendrell), who were part of his most immediate artistic environment. The article ends with a very careful classification of Mestres’ song works.
