Abstract
This paper summarizes a larger study and edition of the lexicographic work of Josep Hospitaler (1820-1880) a Valencian teacher settled in Menorca. Firstly, it outlines the historical and sociolinguistic context and the lexicographic tradition in Menorca. Secondly, it lays out some biographical facts about Hospitaler and description of his main linguistic works: the Vocabulario castellano-menorquín y viceversa (1867–1869) and the Diccionario manual menorquín-castellano (1875-1881). Finally, it analyses their linguistic interest. In particular, it focuses on dialectal data, the presence of eighteenth-century anglicisms and other diatopic information displayed in both volumes.
