Why, the war?

Main Article Content

Sigmund Freud

Freud reflects on what the problem of war represents from a psychological point of view. Individual violence is contrasted with alliance and law, which are seen as a strength in the community. He states that in men there are two active drives: one —the Death Pulse— which is destructive, and the other —Eros— which tends to preserve and unite. Both are necessary and the manifestations of life emerge from their collaboration and opposition. Aggressive tendencies are inevitable and work needs to be done to strengthen emotional bonds between humans.
