AbstractIn Catalonia initiatives for the inclusion of social and cultural anthropology in secondary education have been designed and implemented. The formats and modalities that have made this possible are many, but have generally been insufficiently explicit or specific, and mainly involve introducing anthropology across the curriculum or as part of teacher training. This article is an exploratory look at some of the work carried out in this regard, taking into consideration political, economic and collective identity changes since the end of the 19th century and their relationship to education and the schools, as well as the way anthropology has been positioned academically in these processes. It is argued that anthropology should be included in secondary education in recognition of its potential, its contributions to knowledge and its professionals.
