The contribution of two early ecclesiastical texts towards a research on Roman administration of Callaecia in the third century

Main Article Content

Martín Fernández Calo
Research on Roman administration in Callaecia has been modified in the last decades as a result of the assessment of new epigraphic documents and the correction of their historiographical interpretations. It has allowed to map out a diffuse historical sequence among subprovincial procuracies and legations Asturiae et Callaeciae, the Hispania Superior province, and finally the late imperial Callaecia. The exact chronological boundaries among those institutions, in turn, have brought up new questions. Under such circumstances, two early ecclesiastical texts referred to the third century seem toallow to define the historical sequence carried by those institutions, placing a chronological limit to their existence.
