Ambienti e edifici di culto domestici nella Penisola Iberica

In this essay some examples of rooms and buildings for domestic cult in Roman Hispania will be examined. Having outlined the studies about this subject, the research methodology will be described, which provides that some cases of indoor rooms of domus and villae are analysed in the early part, presenting them from the earliest to the most recent, underlying their structural and decorative morphological aspects and their location within the house. These rooms will be compared to some examples gathered from different areas of the Empire, bearing similar features to the cases from Hispania. Then, a second part will follow, dedicated to buildings for domestic cult pertaining to extra-urban villae and placed, with regard to these, outdoors, in the parks or in the courtyards. This survey will be discussed again in a chronological sequence, from the earliest to the most recent ones, stressing structural and decorative elements, and their contextualization within the house. Then, further analogous comparisons are proposed, traced both in an urban and in an extra-urban context, with the aim of highlighting recurrences and peculiarities in the cases of Hispania. The article concludes with a synthesis of the themes discussed, stressing, as had been done at the beginning of the essay, that the topic examined is still to be largely investigated.
