This article covers the development of the Roman monarchy in the 6th century through three main aspects: the accession to power of the different kings, their ideological basis and the supposed identification of tyranny. The conclusion is that the monarchy disappears in an internal degradation process resulting from the underlying incompatibility between the regnum and the civitas.
