La cobertura de la política durante la Transición en los diarios El País y Abc

During the Transition, Spanish journalists had the opportunity to start up a process of professionalization that led them to higher levels of independence from political power. At the same time, the countrys political class also needed to legitimize itself in the new democratic system and to do so it required the cooperation of the media. The main objective of this paper is to analyze how El País and Abc reflected political life during the Transition. To this end, three variables have been considered: a) the types ofevents that gave rise to political news, b) the political action scenarios, and c) the type of actors who were the protagonists of the news. A total of 975 analysis units published in both newspapers between 1980 and 1985 have been studied.
