"Qualitative Literacy" by Mario Luis Small and Jessica McCrory Calarco offers a novel and compelling guide for assessing the quality of qualitative research based on ethnographic observations and in-depth interviews. Avoiding the hackneyed transposition of evaluation criteria from other methodologies, the authors propose five indicators of research quality in qualitative fieldwork: cognitive empathy, heterogeneity, palpability, follow-up, and self-awareness. Each of these criteria, convincingly developed through illuminating examples from previous research, is not only relevant for beginners but also encourages methodological reflection among those already literate in the field.
