The appearance of the land and the onomastics of Espluga Calba

The name of Espluga Calba directly links the onomastics of the town with the shapes of its relief. So, starting from espluga, we look at the different names that the underground cavities receive in the Catalan-speaking territories and we choose those that we have detected in this municipality. We then consider listing the main elements of the topography and illustrating them with examples from oral sources and ancient documentation. We have not intended to make an exhaustive inventory but, rather, a selection of the most remarkable aspects that reflect onomastics, basically oronymy, but also in some cases anthroponymy. We also mention examples of names collected in other populations but which may be related to ours.
