The New Laws brought situations that predicted even the collapse of the Spanish establishment in the Indies. However, his supporters, like Father Las Casas, such as Bishop Fray Antonio de Valdivieso, opted for confrontation with the encomenderos, writing letters to the Council of the Indies in which they explained the circumstances of which they were witnesses. Such a committed performance led to his assassination of Valdivieso on February 26, 1550, conducted by the children of Rodrigo de Contreras, prosecuted in Spain and one of the encomenderos of Nicaragua. Later, the Contreras rebelled against the king, being defeated. At the same time, the Bishop of Guatemala, Francisco Marroquín, complained about the actions of Alonso López Cerrato, president of the Audiencia de los Confines and favorable to Las Casas, and sought alternative ways for the benefit of the natives
