Main Article Content
This article is an analysis of the life, professional relationships and artistic work of the painter Vicente Tió. Although mentioned in numerous studies, little is known about the artist. We therefore offer a profile of him, based on a study of the few of his works that survive, an analysis of published and unpublished documents, and relevant literary sources of the period. Tió is documented in Zaragoza in the central decades of the sixteenth century, specifically until 1665, the year of his death. He is known to have been involved in two famous artistic enterprises: first, the copies of the portraits of the Kings of Aragon in the palace of the Diputación of the Kingdom Aragón requested by Felipe IV for the Buen Retiro palace; and second, the paintings commissioned by the brotherhood of San José de Zaragoza for their chapel in the monastery of Santa Engracia.
