Architecture in the noble culture of Xàtiva

Main Article Content

Pablo Camarasa Balaguer
This paper analyses and identifies the architecture that the nobility commissioned to be built in the town of Xàtiva, Valencia, in order to display their power. The study also attempts to demonstrate the value of the buildings and elements that have been preserved to this day. The methodology consists of an initial analysis of the building stock to evaluate its architecture as well as a search for archives to determine the evolution of both the constructions and the families that inhabited them. We conclude that a large number of buildings erected by the noble class remain standing in Xàtiva, thus confirming the high concentration of noble families that once lived in the town. In addition, the study reveals that, in general, the state of the houses requires urgent intervention to protect and preserve them.
