From Typographical Syntax to Editing

Main Article Content

Pere Farrando

Since the term typographical syntax has become widely used with one meaning, ‘typography spelling’, which is not acceptable, we propose to replace it by editing which we take from the work of Josep M. Pujol. Likewise, based on Pujol’s teaching we show that editing is not part of spelling, an idea which we have found to be widespread in the literature in Spanish. Finally, bearing in mind that Pujol and Solà’s Ortotipografia, the book that brought the term into common use, is divided into two parts, we contend that the topic of the second one, text composition, should be uncoupled from editing.
