Immigrants’ languages in the Balearic Islands

During the 2009-2010 academic year, as part of the agreement between Linguamón - Casa de les Llengües and the University of the Balearic Islands, with the collaboration of the Sociolinguistic Research Group of the Balearic Islands headed by Dr Joan Melià and with the support of the Study Group of Endangered Languages headed by Dr Carme Junyent, a study was undertaken to discover which languages are currently being spoken in the islands. The article presents the findings of this study. Firstly, it sets out the purpose of the study; secondly, it describes the planning phases and methodology used before referring to the process of data collection and processing, and finally it sets out the findings. The last section of the article details the most important conclusions drawn from the study thus far.
