New challenges, new solutions: digital transformation in Catalan university libraries

This article reflects on how digital transformation processes affect university libraries in the provision of services and in the user experience. Firstly, a brief definition of the concept of digital transformation is proposed and how it is framed in European policies, institutional strategies and in the organizational structure of universities. The impact of digital transformation today is analyzed in 3 different areas: in support of teaching and learning; supporting research and open science and in the library buildings. The article reflects on new professional profiles with new skills and training in digital competences. Finally, a balance is made between the benefits of completing the digital transformation in libraries and some aspects that may slow down its implementation.
