Various projects for mass digitisation of library books are described: Google Print Library, Open Content Alliance, Open Library, Universal Library and other. The objectives of this type of project are analysed, as well as their technological and organisational aspects. Finally, there is a discussion of the implications of these new services for those already offered by libraries and for the libraries’ societal role.
