The working group responsible for Easy-to-read initiatives of the Catalan library association (Col·legi Oficial de Bibliotecaris-Documentalistes de Catalunya - COBDC) presents the results of a questionnaire sent to Catalan public libraries in 2003. The objective of the survey was to determine the level of awareness about easy-to-read materials and whether there was a demand for texts in adapted formats. The questionnaire asked about preferences for subjects and languages in order for planning future publications. The group also sought suggestions for organisations that could be interested in this type of material as well as for titles that are used by specific groups or persons that would benefit from adaptation of the texts. The results showed the need to promote easy-to-read materials more widely and to increase the number of titles published in easy-to-read formats, independently of the media involved (book, audio-visual, electronic, etc.).
